Stretch wrap is one of the most useful and versatile materials in the packaging industry. Stretch wrapping can be used to:
- Secure loads to prevent shifting in transit
- Protect products from moisture, dirt and dust
- Reduce theft and tampering
Here are a few of the most common uses for stretch wrap.
Palletizing
Stretch wrapping is one of the easiest and most economical ways to secure a load on a pallet for shipment. Simply stack boxes into a cube on the pallet and wind the stretch film around them. This can be done by hand or using a specialized machine for fast and secure pallet wrapping. Stretch wrapping is also great for pallets of heavy bags (think feed, fertilizer, soil or mulch), stacks of beverage containers or even heavy 55-gallon drums or steel beams.
Bundling
Light hand or bundling/banding wraps can be used to bundle loose products together into discreet units for inventory management, sale or transport. Stretch film can be used to group small products into larger units (think economy-size bundles of tissues or paper towels) or to bundle together items such as tubing, rods or dowels. Bundling wrap or mini-wrap rolls are available in three to five inch widths for convenient and fast manual application.
Roll and Reel Securing
Stretch film can be used to secure rolled items such as carpeting or wire reels. This is an easy and cost-effective way to prevent unrolling or unraveling during transport and storage. Simply wrap a couple of layers of stretch film around the rolled or coiled material. The film clings to itself—no ties or tools required!
Product Protection
Sometimes stretch film is used to provide light protection for products on the shelf. Picture frames and other consumer goods may be wrapped in a layer of stretch wrap instead of packaged in a cardboard box for sale. Stretch wrapping protects products from moisture, dirt and scratches while keeping the product visible. It’s also great for ensuring that buckets of liquids such as paint or boxes of dry goods don’t accidentally come open during distribution.
Moving
Stretch wrapping is ideal for protecting and securing large items for transport. Movers often use stretch film to protect furniture from scratches and scrapes during the move. It also holds drawers shut, so you can move objects like dressers or file cabinets without removing items from the drawers. Industrial equipment can also be protected with stretch film. A tight wrap stabilizes moving parts and reduces the risk of damage to expensive equipment. It’s a great option for anything that is too big for a carton or crate.
