Choosing the Right Stretch Film Gauge or Thickness

Article author: Sakura Yang

Stretch Film is used to protect your items during shipping and secure them from potential damage or loss. Bundling your shipments with stretch film can also deter theft and make it easy to see if the items were tampered with.

When choosing the right stretch film, thickness of film matters.

Gauge is the thickness of the stretch film. Stretch film is available in different gauges from 32gauge to 200gauge. The higher the number means the thicker the stretch film.

Heavier gauge stretch films are often used for heavy loads such as machine parts, bags of fertilizer and etc. Also for loads with more corners, edges and angles.

Lighter gauge films are often used for lighter loads such as light food products (chips, etc) or foam products.

However, technological advances in film have enabled users to take advantage of the lower cost of lighter films without sacrificing puncture resistance and load retention.
